10. The millionth wordAccording to the Global Language Monitor, around April 29 2009, the English Language is expected to acquire its millionth word.
9. Jimmy Fallon comes to latenight
Former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Jimmy Fallon will take over Late Night from Conan, when Conan moves up to the Tonight show.
8. Cheap travel
Senior Editor of Travelocity, Genevieve Shaw Brown predicts that 2009 will be the year of travel deals. Cheap flights, hotels, and cruises can be found if booked in advance.
7. Spring baseball
The Chicago White Sox and L.A. Dodgers are moving to Camelback Ranch in Glendale for spring training, joining many other teams who train throughout Arizona.
6. Summer blockbusters
Transformers 2, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Harry Potter and the Half-blood prince, Star Trek, Angels and Demons, Year One and Public Enemies are sure to keep the summer action packed.
5. MCC will host Special Olympics summer games
April 30-May 1. In exchange for hosting, the Special Olympics will donate $10,000 into an endowed scholarship fund for students with disabilities at MCC.
4. No Doubt reunites for a summer tour
Also CD releases by Taking back Sunday, Dave Matthews Band, U2, The Fray, Brand New, Eminem, Bruce Springsteen, Jamiroquai and Outkast.
3. Fashion knock-offs
Feb. 13-20 is Fashion week, with designers introducing their hot new collections. Hopefully Forever 21 will come out with some new stuff soon after.
2. The year of Astronomy
2009 marks the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s first observations with his telescope. On July 22 the longest solar eclipse of 21st century will occur. Also, the first Friday of every month, MCC will be hosting Astronomy nights.

The nation voted, and on Jan. 20 2009, Barack Obama will officially take office.
