Vitamins provide nutrients missing from normal diets

Hillary Smith

The necessity for vitamins has taken a turn into the unknown. Today, many debate on the importance of these daily pills.

Can’t we get the nutrition we need just from a balanced diet?

“The mass producing of our food robs the nutrients,” said personal trainer, Sharyn Jackson.

“If you were to eat raw fruits and vegetables all the time you could gain proper nutrients, but once the fruit or vegetable is cut or cooked they begin to lose their vitamins,” said Jackson.

Vitamins come in many variations. There are multiple brands to choose from as well as, multivitamins -with all the daily needs-, vitamins that are sold individually, different levels of strength, and the choice of powder or pill form.

Most bottles are labeled with the exact same ingredients, but the purity of each vitamin changes.

With a brand name there comes a patent ingredient to make it their own.

Jackson believes taking vitamins separately as opposed to taking a multivitamin is more effective.

It is important to increase the energy level and preserve the bones and metabolism within the body.

Jackson suggests the most important time to take vitamins is in early to mid twenties because that is when bone loss begins and metabolism slows down.

With so many choices, how does a person decide which one is best?

“Lifestyle and eating habits are a key ingredient to what vitamins are right for you,” Jackson said.

The type of vitamins taken is based upon each body’s needs.

For example, if there is a lack of serotonin, vitamin D or sunlight can assist in getting the body back to normal.

It is suggested that pregnant women take folic acid to promote a healthy pregnancy.

Also, young girls should start taking vitamins such as calcium or vitamin C in order to help their bones become stronger during their most important growing stage of their life.

Fish Oil vitamins are among some of the popular vitamins people take.

The vitamin is said to ease anxiety or depression, speed up metabolism, make hair shiny, and it boosts levels of Omega-3 fatty acids, which helps keep away heart disease.

Communicating with a nutritionist, personal trainer, or a health and wellness counselor can help to select the correct vitamins needed for each age and body type.

It is possible to misuse and overdose on vitamins, so it is very important to address someone with further knowledge.
