Welcome to spring sports

Jeff Moses

The semester starting as always also marks the return of Thunderbird athletics, and this spring there seams to be plenty to look forward to. The Lady T-Bird basketball team is looking strong riding a 3-game winning streak into the semester after losing their number nine ranking in the nation from the beginning of this season.

They are lead by 2 guard Christina Buescher who leads the team in both scoring and steals and ranks within the top 20 in the ACACC in both categories

On the mens side head coach Sam Ballard is hoping his squad can turn around an 8 game winter break losing streak beginning on January 1st, and still going as of January 19th

Hopefully, the tall long limbed Thunderbirds can out rebound the competition, and leading scorer point guard ,John Balwigaire, can make some magic happen on the offensive side of the court.

The T-Birds should strive to achieve the level of success they did in 2010 when they won the region 1 championship.

As solid as both the basketball teams have been MCC’s most decorated program is also coming back into season with the beginning of the semester.

Lead by Steve Jacobs in his 22nd year as head coach Mesa Thunderbird Track and Field is ready to run the track both indoor and outdoor.

Thunderbird softball is looking strong coming into the season after going 42-22 in the 2010 season and being the number one seed in the regional playoffs.

Head Coach John Malgradi is hoping that his days coaching in the Amateur Softball Association 14U and 16U teams brings him the right recruits to mix with his returning sophomores to bring about victory for T-Bird Softball.

Thunderbird baseball is looking feirce behind coach Tony Cirelli in his 17th year, and returning All-American Darian Johnson is primed and ready to lead the T-birds to a successful 2011 outing.
