What publications do students read?

Julija Kaselyte

We do not live in the Stone Age, and we do not ignore the Internet: there are millions of
things that catch our eyes there. Blogs and online magazines have become addictive. At the
moment, however, you are holding a newspaper in your hands. Maybe the saying, “digital is
the future,” might not be an exact truth. Which paper publications get most of the attention?
We asked MCC students to explain their preferences of favorite readings, both digital and
print:

Victoria Wilson:

“I really like Cosmopolitan. I love articles about fashion and make up. I like some
blogs, usually anything art related, such as justthedesign.tumblr.com, but magazines are my
preference.”

Sergio Santa Cruz:

“I subscribe to Guitar World magazine, it is my favorite one. Sometimes I buy other
publications, but only if I see anything fun and interesting to read. I’m not really a fan of
online stuff.”

Belena Durazo:

“Well my favorite is W magazine, because it keeps me up to date with all the new trends
that will be in for the upcoming season. My favorite types of articles are the ones that inform
us about the fashion designers and what their collections were about. The beauty section gives
some great tips too.”

Lyndsey Urrea:

“If the cover of Cosmopolitan looks interesting, I grab it. But I’m not a reader of
newspapers. I really like searching for cool things online. I have Tumblr account myself and
post things that describe my moods there. I’m also addicted to Pinterest. It’s cool because it’s
easier to find things there than Tumblr, so it’s better!”

Katy Rivera:

“I prefer magazines such as Seventeen or Teen People. I usually read articles about fashion
and celebrities. If I pick up a paper, I read the entertainment section. I’m not a fan of online
stuff though.”

Caleb Asay:

“I like reading things online, usually political articles. Sometimes I check out the ones that
my friends post on Facebook. For more variety I subscribe a bunch of tattoo magazines, there
is a lot of great stuff that you can find, for example, articles about artists.”

Yesenia Ines Beltran:

“My favorite publications are Forbes, Vanity Fair, and National Geographic. I love blogs
about traveling, because you can get a glimpse of new worlds, foods, and people!
