Football season is back and Mesa Community College is no exception.  The MCC Thunderbirds are back this year lead by head coach Ryan Felker, quarterback Brandon Doson, center Devin Brunette, and defensive linemen Robert Coleman and Rashawn Parker. “The goals for me is that they are competitive, that they are academically successful,” said athletic director John Mulhern. “I personally would love to see an academic all-American football team.”
Although this season’s first game has already been played, it resulted in a loss for the Thunderbirds, who trailed by three points.

After suffering the loss from the first game, the team is looking forward to the next.  Felker said, “We have to be prepared every week. They are all good football players. Basically, everybody can beat anybody.”  Felker worked at Desert Edge High School as a head coach before transferring to a couple of other community colleges, and eventually coming to work at MCC as the head coach of the Firebirds. He finally decided to make the move to MCC so that he could have the best high schools in his own back yard.  He has lead his teams to several victories and hopefully he will do the same with this year’s Thunderbirds through hard practice and discipline.
