So many bars so little time. It can be a challenge finding the right spot to drop your dime while making sure it is money well spent, which is why The Mesa Legend’s sports team is here to help. It’s our duty to thoroughly stake out sports bars and their specials in order to pass along the knowledge to fellow college students. Let’s begin.

The first spot we descended upon was Tilted Kilt located at 1910 S. Gilbert road in Mesa on the NWC of Gilbert and Baseline.

This Celtic themed sports pub is loaded with food and drink specials, while also offering a 15 percent discount for bikers, firemen and policemen.

There are daily beer specials, $3 Jack and Coke’s all day everyday, a vodka-laced breakfast bar which also includes omelets’ and French toast; and their own “Blazin Kilt” menu offered throughout the summer which lists foods with an added spicy kick to them.

The Kilt also has hourse specialties littered throughout the food and beverage menus.

The appetizer menu deserves a once-over as their happy hour specials reduce them in price by half.

The Irish nachos are delicious and different; a pile of crispy potato chips topped with cheese sauce, seasoned ground beef, tomatoes and a side of salsa for dipping.

Sized enough for two people and priced right for one, happy hour puts this meal at $5.

Tilted Kilt doesn’t stop at food, there is also karaoke on Wednesdays, and live music on Fridays and Saturdays.

The atmosphere is kick back. The owner chats it up with patrons, and the hostesses are both funny and attentive.

The Tilted Kilt offers TV’s above the bar and tables, a dining area, and a wraparound patio with misters.

Keep the tabs separate if eating with more than one person as The Legend’s bills were mixed up, or simply double-check before paying.

The radio station KUPD will be at this location on September 27 and October 15, 2009. Happy hour is from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, with reverse happy hour from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday and from 10 p.m. to midnight Monday and Tuesday.

Further south at 970 S. Gilbert road on the SWC of Gilbert and Warner is a neighborhood favorite, Buffalo Wild Wings.

Buffalo offers a more family atmosphere and the clientele is diverse.

They are first a restaurant, then a sports bar, but it’s hard to tell.

Buffalo boasts a whopping 53 TV’s and offers every game being played, regardless of the sport.

They broadcast all UFC fights and Pay-per-view boxing bouts and also have water pong tournaments every two weeks with cash prizes.

Their claim to fame is Buffalo’s Blazin Wing Challenge.

This is quite an event. They use a microphone to rally patrons around the participant and a fireman’s outfit is donned by an employee.

Contestants must sign a waiver in order to participate in the challenge which consists of eating 12 wings in under six minutes in Buffalo’s hottest sauce, “Blazin.”

The winner receives not only bragging rights but a t-shirt and a picture on the restaurant’s wall of fame.

As noted in the name, Buffalo is known for their chicken wings.

There are weekly specials on these with 40 cent wings on Tuesday and 60 cent boneless wings on Thursday.

Buffalo offers 16 different sauces depending on how mild or spicy visitors like their meals.

The sauces are also available on any regular menu item.

Buffalo’s happy hour specials are served from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and reverse happy hour is on Friday’s only from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m..

The happy hour menu is divided into $4, $5, and $6 price ranges.

A popular night is Thursday, which offers $3 you-call-its for all drinks including mixed drinks, beers, and Buffalo’s signature drink, the “Buffalo Zoo.”

An outdoor patio offers TVs perched above the tables that offer both misters and heaters.

This Buffalo Wild Wings is located on McQueen and Elliot that honors all food and drink specials listed.
