Psi Beta and Phi Theta Kappa, honor societies at MCC, joined together with the Mesa Fire Department to bring gifts to less fortunate families. They held their 8th annual toy drive at the Red Mountain campus on Nov. 22 and 23..Kelsi Hood, member of Psi Beta, explained the details of the activity, stating that the purpose was to help make Christmas more special for those in need.

“We’re going to give all the toys and gift certificates and any money to the fire fighters . They’re going to then disperse the toys where they are needed,” Hood said.

Before the drive even began, toys that were brought into classrooms by students were dropped off to Instructional Support and Student Life.

The clubs felt confident on the first day of the actual drive that they would continue to be successful.

“We have been very successful. (Students) will be able to drop toys off at Instructional Support and Service Learning until Tues (Nov. 30),” Hood said.

The fire department made a list of the families and planed to distribute the toys as needed, using the money they receive to purchase the items that were not collected by donation.

“They can be girls’ toys, boys’ toys, gender neutral; any (kind of toys),” Hood said about items that would be acceptable for donation. The group wanted to provide quality gifts for the children who would be receiving them.
