It’s my music

Dominic DeCono

Have you ever been chastised over what you’re listening to and got really annoyed?

I have, and it is something that needs to stop.

I remember getting in the car with my buddies and turning up my radio to a Green Day song and being told that my taste of music is terrible and that I should find something that doesn’t totally suck to listen to.

Now, it doesn’t matter what your opinion of Green Day is, I enjoy their music and I shouldn’t be told what I like is bad.

What you listen to and what you find good is no one else’s business to judge, because it is your choice and your choice alone.

Here’s another instance: I listen to Lady Gaga rather often. I think she is a highly creative artist who isn’t afraid to say what she means and makes generally fun music to listen to.

So why should I be degraded by other people who don’t happen to like her?

It would be as if someone came up to you and told you that your boyfriend or girlfriend is the ugliest thing to ever walk the face of Earth.

Not only is that incredibly disrespectful, but it is immature, and flat out wrong.

If my friends are jamming out to Justin Bieber, that is none of my business to say they are listening to music I don’t like.
