In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., MCC basketball hosted a MLK day classic game against the Phoenix College Bears.

As the Bears entered the Gym, one thing was noticeable right away.

The Bears had size and lots of it.

Leading the way, in the height department, for the Bears was 6’8 Patrick Massey.

The Tbirds held Massey the freshman center, to only 5 rebounds on the night.

The Bears were a scrappy bunch swapping the lead with the Tbirds all night.

Every time the Tbirds established a lead, it was met with a swift offensive outburst by the Bears which never allowed the Tbirds to hold a comfortable lead.

With less than five minutes left in the game the Tbirds were trailing by double digits. The Tbirds relied on some timely three-point shots and a stiff defense to regain the lead.

As the Bears relinquished the lead to the Tbirds, the final minute of the game came down to some clutch free-throws.

On the night the Tbirds hit 20-29 shots from the charity line which helped seal the Victory for the Tbirds who won 92-88.

The Tbirds offensive attack was led by sophomore guard Asaad Woods. Woods had 21 points to go along with 6 rebounds.

A big difference between the two teams on the night was the production output from the bench.

The Bears only managed to get 17 points while the Tbirds’ bench was able to assist the starters by contributing 36 points.
