MCC to expand its Study Abroad program to France

Plans have been unveiled to include France in the short list of countries available for study abroad programs in 2013.

The course is one month long, with assorted class work being completed stateside before leaving to France.

At this point, the program plans to cover two French courses during the first summer school session of 2013.

The first and more basic class, FRE 115, will provide students with a solid 3 credit French conversation course. The second class, FRE 265, which is a 3 credit advanced French I course, will require that the student had at least passed French 202 as a prerequisite.  Both French courses will be taught by French Professor Maria Gardeta-Healy. The course will also include a 1 credit independent study.

“We haven’t secured any prices yet,” said Mary Aldridge, an english professor heading up the Study Abroad initiative for France. “We are trying to stay within the $2,000 to $3,000 range and with possible scholarship programs like the New Leaf – which will match up to $1,000 savings on a 3:1 ratio (i.e. save $1 get $3) – This means saving $1,000 will end up providing $4,000 for the trip.”

While in France, a trip to Paris, the Eiffel tower and theLouvre are part of a tuition-covered three day stay in Paris’ downtown French Quarters.
