The Legend’s View

Everyone has something they see as a thrill, an extreme adventure, something to work up the adrenaline.
Call it a “bucket list,” or what you will, there’s a lingering list of things to do before you “kick the bucket,” or, you know, ‘bite the dust.’
Maybe you have avoided this list, or doing what really matters to you because you didn’t want to admit to everyone that this is a hard truth to discover.
On the other hand, maybe you’ve just convinced yourself that, by some miracle afforded by the “fountain of youth,” you’ll never have gray hair or lose it or ever push up daises.
To find out what the college-age population thinks of the scenario, I meandered around campus and quizzed your fellow students on what they consider important things to do during their lifetimes.
Interviewing students on campus, I realized there are those generic adrenaline rushes everyone wants to experience, things like bungee jumping or skydiving, simply for the thrills.
But, upon closer inspection (and more interviews) I realized that for most of us it’s not about the adrenaline, everyone’s “bucket list” is reflective of their view on life and what’s most important.
I didn’t meet anyone who wanted to run away and join the circus or name a star after themselves, but travel and experience seem to be the top of everyone’s list.
“I would like to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do because as you climb up, you pass through all seven existing climates of the earth,” MCC student Christine Miller said.
There you have it, for Miller, such an experience is the joy of life, and that’s what the list is all about.
Whether you die tomorrow or in 55 years, living your life to its fullest should be the easiest thing on the list, what achieves more inner peace than finishing the unfinished?
