Women’s and men’s basketball advance to playoffs
After finishing 20-8 and 17-5 in conference play, the Mesa T-Birds are headed to the Region I semi-finals. On Feb. 28, the T-Birds will host Arizona Western. During the regular season the T-Birds were 1-1 when they played Arizona Western. “It feels good to be the top seed, but we cannot get comfortable because that means it is going to get tougher for us when we play other teams,” said Mesa T-Bird Charles Wardell Jr.
“Overall I think we need to get tougher and play better defense if we want to win in the playoffs,” Wardell said. “I believe the team believes in coach Ballard because he wants us to do our best every time.” “He motivates us to win, and he explains to us what kind of team we are and what we have the potential to do, which is win, Going into the playoffs our goal is to win games.”
If Mesa wins the game on Feb.28 they will play in the Region I finals on March 2. Then on March 7, the T-Birds will play in the District championship game. On the other side, the Lady T-Birds will match up against Glendale Community College in the Division II, Region I semi-finals.
