GOP hopefuls thinning out

The field of Republicans vying for their party’s nomination is large, a clown car of candidates to the wary voter. Many candidates seem to be unelectable, or at least unable to beat Barack Obama in 2012.
Three candidates, Perry, Bachmann, and Cain, have all stated that God called on them to run, with Cain even comparing himself to Moses. The logical conclusion is that either God is screwing with two of them real good, or all three are hearing voices.
Perry, originally a Democrat, supported Texas’ anti-sodomy laws, despite the U.S. Supreme Court striking them down, because he believes his religion allows him to govern what goes on in our bedrooms.
He also endorsed a resolution calling for Texas’ secession from the United States, thus securing himself, in my mind, as a crazy person.
Bachmann has no urge to check most of the “facts” she states, with her statements about the HPV vaccine being the most famous example. She has also lied about the government money her family farm has received and about her personal profits from the farm. Next we have the pizza guy, Herman Cain. His 9-9-9 tax plan would raise taxes on the poorest of Americans (big surprise!). Adding a 9-percent federal sales tax and a 9-percent across-the-board federal income tax would raise taxes for those at poverty level who may not be paying any income tax right now.
And at this point, I don’t think it matters if he’s guilty of sexual harassment or not; the damage has been done, and he did a very bad job of minimizing it.
Newt Gingrich actually used the word “humane” when speaking about immigration reform, a word that would have gotten him hung by his party in the last few years of anti-immigration fervor. It seems he is riding the changing tide in the immigration debate, but I don’t want to vote for a poll hound. Challenges to his ethics while in the House may be a problem for him as well.
Mitt Romney, the establishment guy, is a good bet for nomination, but can he beat Obama?
Ron Paul, a true Conservative, wants government out of every aspect of Americans’ personal lives, not just our pocketbooks. But his stances on some right-wing causes kill his nomination chances. That’s too bad for Republicans, because he’s the only one I’d vote for.
