Girls take note; men stand out with sense of style

Fashion for men can be a bit of a tricky topic. “Men care about being comfortable,” said Trent Walters, an ASU student who considers himself fashionable.

There are the class of men that appear not to care, the ones that clearly do and those that try, but fall a bit short of the mark. There is the long standing stigma that men simply don’t care as much as women do, but there may not actually be a lot of stock in that.

“No one would be talking about the designers, if the shows featured what all well-dressed men are wearing – grey suits, with a smart tie and a nice shirt,” said Charlie Higson, actor and author.

It is perhaps that point made by Higson that illustrates the stigma. Just because men keep it simple, doesn’t necessarily mean that they don’t care.

With that in mind, heading into fall there are some trends that men can employ to keep this simple but sensible fashion in place.

According to AskMen, black leather and plaid are two of the big trends this season for guys. So men can look into getting a fitted black leather jacket, and some plaid shirts.

“Suits are full of joy. They’re the sartorial equivalent of a baby’s smile,” according to Barney Stinson of the hit show How I Met Your Mother, aka Neil Patrick Harris.

It is very helpful for men to own a suit and one that fits properly. Black or navy offer the most flexibility and latitude to accessorize with different shirts and ties.

If men are concerned about their pocketbook these things don’t have to cost a fortune. Department stores such as Target and Sears offer lots of trending options for reasonable prices with comparable fit and quality to more expensive brands.

Also, men can always rely on a good thrift shop find, as trends do have a tendency to circle around.
