The Mesa women’s tennis team took to their home court on March 1 to paly the Pima Aztecs. The T-Birds came into the match after an 8-1 thrashing they doled out to Paradise Valley on Feb. 24 without the services of their number one singles player Iman Alibrahim.

Despite the injury Mesa assistant coach Jessica Meihnart was still optimistic about her team’s chances against the visitors from Tucson.

Meihnart said the team was “very excited” for the match” and “ready to play tough” against the lady Aztecs.

The number three doubles tandem of Hayley Roby and Meagan LeSueur took home a match victory, but the other two doubles teams struggled valiantly but ultimately lost to the Aztecs.

In singles play only Hayley Roby was able to secure a victory over her opponent. The rest of the T-Bird took losses and lost the match 7-2

Thunderbird tennis head coach, Adam Cohen, said, “I don’t like losing but it’s improvement from a month ago and I look forward to seeing them again in another month, I think we can switch that score, I know we can.”

The T-Birds are a young team with a fiery young coach to match their intensity. There is no reason why the turnaround shouldn’t happen for the Ladies of Mesa.

The T-Birds next home match is against Scottsdale on March 8 at 1:30 p.m.
