Many players go from high school to college. Talents get spotted while other athletes write to the coaches to get tryouts, and attempt to be accepted to play at the college level. Many times those who are not going straight to four year colleges will play at the community college level.

One of the many tools that can be used to contact a coach is to go to the MCC athletics website http://athletics.mesacc.edu/

Click on the sport you are interested in, and then go to the recruiting tab to fill out the form.

Coaches will receive this then contact the interested party. It will go from there.

Some of the club sports that are going on right now are football, soccer, and golf, Starting in this month are basketball, softball, and baseball.

College coaches may go watch games and tournaments to find talented individuals to contact.

“I send out questionnaires to high schools where they send them back about possible players” said Coach Hargrave, MCC’s football coach.

One of the sports on campus is the men’s and women’s golf club which is coached by John Guerrero.

“Eighty percent are kids writing letters to go while the other 20 percent are local students that I go to recruit talent for the college level” Guerrero said.

Another sport on the campus is men’s and women’s soccer which is coached by Andrew Guarneri, “I go to the high schools to watch games as well as look at soccer clubs in the area,” he said.

Many coaches will tell interested players to come to a practice or two, and sometimes a scrimmage to see how they fit in.

This gives the coaches a chance to see how a player performs and also fits with the team.
