Women’s basketball jamboree is a slam dunk

On Oct. 3 the Mesa Community College Lady Thunderbirds hosted a jamboree featuring various community colleges, and they looked amazing. The first game they came out aggressive from the start and didn’t seem like losing was an option.

They played well offensively, but it was their tenacious defensive that kept the game close in the early minutes.

Closing in on the last minutes of the game, the Lady Thunderbirds looked to have a sense of urgency, and it paid off.

Creating turnover after turnover, they pulled away from Glendale CC and a five point lead quickly went to 11 points with MCC winning 35-24 over the Lady Gauchos.

The second game they played later on that day did not go much different, with the MCC defeating the Coyotes of Chandler-Gilbert CC 40-22.

In the last of game of the day played by MCC, the T-birds had a good match up with the Aztecs of Pima College.

This was a game that went to the wire, and even when the buzzer sounded off there was still no decided winner.

The game was over and scoreboard showed 25-25, after an event full of excitement and drama.

At the end of the day most teams were probably going back to the drawing boards, and getting out the last kinks in their game plans before the season starts later this month.
