MCC takes to field against Pima; gets shut down. Men’s and women’s soccer both suffered losses against Pima Community College on Oct. 20, games that ended without MCC scoring a goal. The lady T-Birds were first to face the Aztecs, in a game that saw attempts made back and forth by both teams, though the only successful goals were scored by MCC’s opposition. The first goal of the game was scored early by Pima player Devyn Hunley, less than 3 minutes after it began, and would remain unanswered for the rest of the game. Though they struggled to find an opportunity, no other goals were made until the second half, the first of which was made by Destiny Jones of Pima with an assist from Hunley at about the 64th minute.
A foul on Mesa Community College led to the last goal of the game, made by Brandi Park of Pima and a 3-0 shutout against the lady T-Birds. The men’s teams took to the field next, though MCC didn’t fare any better than they did in the previous game. Aztec Kyle VanAlstine scored the first goal in the men’s game, assisted by Lorenzo Rodriguez in the 11th minute of the game, after a successive series of corner kicks made by Angel Herdia. The rest of the first half was fairly uneventful, with no attempts of note that came close to Pima’s goal, from the T-Birds. At the 67th minute Jason Romero scored another goal for Pima, with the assistance of Alejandro Gonzalez. About 6 minutes after Romero’s goal, Rodriguez made one of his own with assistance by Ryan Bristow, making the game 3-0 in favor of the Aztecs. The game drew to a close 10 minutes after the last goal of the game, the second for Romero and made with the assistance of Sadam Ali. The final score for the men’s game was 4-0, ending the night of T-Birds soccer on a sour note for MCC with two back-to-back shutouts.
