Besides checking Facebook, Library offers valuable services to students

The Paul A. Elsner Library is a place where many students go to catch some sleep, study or update their status on the latest social networking site before, after or in between classes. According to Lorna Peralta, chairwoman of the Library Department, some students may not be aware of the resources it contains, or the programs the library has to offer.MCC students can check out any materials with their student ID for three weeks at a time. If more time is needed the material can be renewed.

Any materials can be checked out at the Circulation and Reserve desk on the first floor. Some teachers will provide the library with a textbook that is used in the class, such as math, English, and reading.

The Writing Center on the first floor offers help for students who want better organizational skills, a stronger thesis statement, outline, works cited list and more.

The library is divided into three stories sharing printers, scanners and copy machines throughout

The first floor has current periodicals, and a computer commons area with a few study areas. The second floor has a reference collection and the reference desk where students can go to retrieve help. The third floor is a study area where students who want a quiet atmosphere can go and review their notes.

“The library is mostly used for studying and recreational use; where students will jump on their Facebook account, watch YouTube videos or check e-mail during their free time. Students should also know that the library is open to the public but if a student needs access to a computer they receive priority” Peralta said.
