WLG helps network among MCC employees

The MCC Women’s Leadership Group (WLG) hosted a new member networking event in the Zuni Room Employee Lounge on Sept. 15. The WLG, which also allows men as members, is designed to help Maricopa Community College employees create connections that will later become professional opportunities.
Judy MacQueen, a WLG coordinator and representative, stated the objective of the WLG at MCC.
“We’re looking to help (MCC employees) network. A lot of time (people) at the college are in their little area and never get out.
“So if your advisement or you’re in the back of the campus somewhere in technology in an office, you may never meet other people on the campus.”
She stated that these associations can help create needed self-assurance during promotional interviews, and develop lasting friendships.
“I think one of the biggest things it does is gives people confidence,” MacQueen said.
Part of this was accredited to the large cross-section of employees that attend the events.
“It’s not divided by status or level in the organization. This is across all employee groups.
“Everyone has a chance to mingle among all employee levels,” MacQueen said.
She stated that the WLG had also donated to the community in the past.
“We’re helping with the Empty Bowls event. and also a career clothing drive for the House of Refugee East,” MacQueen said.
