Creativity adds to Halloween spirit

Halloween is a time to indulge in fantasy and illusion, but some things should still be left to the imagination. We’re talking about girls wearing practically nothing and calling it a costume.

Like Lindsay Lohan said in “Mean Girls,” “In girl world, Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it. The hard-core girls just wear lingerie and some form of animal ears.”

Well we’re saying something.

Bra and panties does not an outfit make.

By all means, glam it up and rock out, there’s nothing wrong with looking hot for Halloween, but the line has to be drawn somewhere, and it should be before you show up in public half naked.

Every weekend is an opportunity to dress up and look fabulous at parties or the bars, but Halloween is the one chance you have to really stretch your creative limits and make a statement.

What kind of statement are you making when you head out on All Hallows Eve in nothing but your skivvies?

We’re wondering what happened to ingenuity and resourcefulness?

We are young college students who should exercise our imaginations, even if only for Halloween.

There are inspirations everywhere, but $60 costumes made of the cheapest materials available are anything but innovative.

Silly names like “Captain Hooker” for a pirate, “Shore thing Sandy” for a sailor, and “Miss Layover” for a flight attendant seem clever at first, but they stifle individual imagination, and turn every girl into a walking joke.

Even some men’s costumes are starting to move in this direction with names like “Captain Dick C. Normous,” and “Officer Oliver Clothesoff.”

Who wants to show up at a party with the same ridiculously named kinky costume as 15 other girls?

Last year we saw so many sexy sailors they could have manned their own busty battleship.

It’s a fashion faux pas to be wearing the same outfit as someone else anytime, and Halloween is most certainly not an exception.

Putting in the time and making a costume is all a part of getting into the Halloween spirit.

Luscious materials flow in abundance at thrift shops, and with a snip here and there, combined with a unique vision, can create an incredible, rich looking costume for cheap.

Take a little time, put in some effort and be original.

The best costumes are crafty, not costly.

A room full of surprising and inspired costumes creates an energetic atmosphere at any party.

Creativity is extremely important not only when Halloween rolls around, but in life in general.

Author and composer Robert Fritz said, “The creative process has had more impact, power, influence, and success than any other process in history.”

Many jobs look for creative thinkers when hiring, and creativity has been said to improve mental health.

ASU even offers a class called Creative Environment, on how to tap into your creativity.

So creating an awe-inspiring, personalized costume can possibly lead to success beyond being the best dressed at the Halloween bash.

Also, you’ll probably get more attention from the opposite sex when you can have a conversation about your costume longer than “yeah, this is my underwear.”

At the very least, you will stand out from the horde of half-naked hoochies shivering in the cold.

Halloween is supposed to be about creatively dressing up, not forgetting to get dressed at all.

Kinky cops, foxy firefighters, and naughty nurses are old news.

So this year, we’re begging, give everyone a Halloween to look forward to, leave the alliterated costumes on the shelves at Fascinations and avoid becoming another Halloween cliché in thigh-highs and spiked heels.
