Financial aid is the student’s responsibility
Letter to the Editor
I read your article (Legend’s View, March 9) on financial aid and everybody has their right to voice their opinions. I do not have a problem with that.
In fact the last paragraph of the article is what we promote in every way possible to students…
“All students applying for aid should be aware to plan ahead and apply early. It is a very time consuming process and matter.”
I also agree with the person who wrote the article about all the forms involved.
I don’t care for the forms either, but we don’t have a choice. They are federal regulations that we have to follow.
If students would take a look at the web pages under Financial Aid, the time frames and deadlines are spelled out.
It does notify them that it can take up to 30 business days to process their file and if it is during our peak times, it will take longer.
We are not thieves!
For students who apply for financial aid after the deadlines are highly encouraged to get on the payment plan.
It is their choice to do so and if they do not they will get dropped from their classes.
Financial aid can’t extend due dates into the semester, especially when a student has applied for financial aid a week before school starts.
I am curious as to why nobody does a report on the fact that financial aid has processed 40 to 45 percent more financial aid applications, has awarded $15,000,000 more funds this year than last year, and in a faster turn around, and with the same amount of staff as in previous years.
