Hope for a brighter future

Legend’s View

Sometimes when we look at the world’s problems, they can all be a bit much to bear: the oceans rising over the land, the ozone being eaten away like a moth to a wardrobe, and an ever increasing debt.

It is easy to jokingly say, ‘I feel sorry for the next generation that has to clean up our mess,’ leaving the responsibility to an unborn generation.

This sort of mentality might come from our inability to care about things past our own mortality and we feel it would be too much work for us to change. Except the next generation is looking up to us for what they are supposed to do in the days to come. When they see their role models being irresponsible and inconsiderate then why should they act any different?

As they emulate what we did compared to the generation before us, the world slips into a cycle of complacency.

We look around and see that this generation is perhaps one of the least active and lazy as technology replaces mobility. Does that mean future generations looking to the next will become continuously lazier? Perhaps not.

If you consider what makes a generation great, it is taking definitive action. When people begin to aim towards setting goals in place today instead of letting future generations deal with the problems tomorrow and children see their influences standing up together with a drive to create a better world, then they will choose to create a better world themselves.

There is a common phrase “become the change you wish to see in the world.” In order to become the change we wish to see, first we must become the change our children will see. Change that has a face of kindness and determination that never stops.
