The movie “Let Me In” was released to theaters on Oct. 1, and is an American remake of the Swedish film “Let the Right One In.” It takes place in the early 1980s in New Mexico, and is the story of the relationship between two children stuck with their own set of problems who find a connection.

One of these children is a boy, Owen, dealing with his parent’s divorce and constant bullying from his peers.

The other is a girl who lives next door, Abby. She separates herself from the world because of her need for blood.

Although the trailers for the film may lead one to believe this is a horror film, it’s actually more of a love story, set to a beautifully terrifying and diverse background. Touching scenes are accompanied by gruesome scenes of horror, resulting in a beautiful harmony that reaches out to people everywhere.

The film opens with Owen witnessing a father and daughter moving in next door to his apartment, and in time he meets Abby. They soon find comfort in each other’s unique feelings of alienation from society and are brought together by that.

Conflicts soon arise due to the nature of Abby’s very existence requiring her to murder human’s to perpetuate her own survival.

Throughout the story, we see the power of unity and love and how they can persist in any condition. It is partly due to these elements that help make the movie so shocking, yet beautiful at the same time.

The film features some very impressive acting from some up and coming actors: Codi Smit-Mcphee as Owen and Chlo
