MCC crafts fair brings artisan wares from jewelry to cartoons

For those looking to do some early holiday shopping, the MCC holiday arts and crafts fair offered attendees more than just jewelry. “This is one of the few shows we do each year,” said Roger Harlow, a hobbyist who sells hand-crafted wooden bowls.

One of his bowls was a duplicate of one made by famous Australian bowl maker Richard Raffan. The original would sell for around $4000. Harlow’s clocks in at $40.

Attendees were also drawn to the scents of wickless candles at a booth ran by Scentsy Wickless candles. The candles have a light underneath them that heats the candles so there is no worry of fire hazards.

Scentsy offered scents as far ranging as “cranberry spice” to “rainforest.”

Sean Hoy, a self-published cartoonist, also ran a booth at the fair.

“I saw this (the fair) on Craigslist. So, I thought, ‘I’ll run down there,'” Hoy said.

Hoy’s cartoon is called “Hoylarious” and has appeared in magazines such as “AZ Weekly Magazine.”

For those interested in jewelry though, there was plenty.

Michelle Reinken offered bead bracelets and necklaces for sale.

“I’ve been beading for a year and a half,” Reinken said.

Reinken’s first craft show was last weekend at the Tempe Senior Center.
