Mesa Community College works hard to accommodate for a variety of social and academic needs.  Whether students and faculty members are food lovers, gamers, book worms, shy introverts, or loud extroverts there is a place for them on campus. Dean Simpson, a student in his third semester at MCC, said that the Kirk Center with its flat screen TV and food options is the place for gamers and foodies.  The games played on the screens vary from day to day. One day, studnets could be playing a good old fashioned round of Mario Kart and the next, they could be having a grand adventure through the world of Final Fantasy.  “There’s also this really cool porch in the library way up top I like to sit at,” said Simpson.

Another favorite of his is Grounds for Thought, the coffee shop located in the AS building just east of the library.  It’s a higher energy environment for the fast paced introvert and friendly extrovert.  He likes to switch between the buzz of the campus coffee shop and the peaceful vibes of the library porch.  The rose garden also provides a picturesque place for students to hang out.
When in bloom, the roses give off a lovely aroma and create an almost romantic atmoshpere.
A stroll through the gardens can be a perfect way to get to know someone while also enjoying the best of the MCC landscape. Clubs encourage many socializing opportunities and positive life experiences.

Students should consider attending the club “Meet and Greet” taking place on February 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the south lawn of the clock tower. It will be a preview of every club on campus for anyone interested in joining one (or several).  Herleen Rooprai, Secretary of Community Relations in MCC’s student government, mentioned the best way to get to know the campus is to get involved.  “Student Leadership has a lot to offer students. Through my English class it was mandatory to do over thirty hours of community service,” she said.  “I did mine through the student leadership department and I fell in love with the diversity I was exposed to,” said Rooprai

She definitely recommended stepping outside the comfort zone and talking to people from diverse backgrounds. “All I can say is there is so much diversity on campus. I recommend learning about different cultures and races.”  MCC’s free tutoring options also promote student success.  Tutoring hours take place Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Locations include the Paul A. Elsner Library, Academic Skills center, Biology Center, Math/CSC Center, Math Foundations Center, and the PIRC Lab.
