Myspace, breeding ground for creepiness

Ashley Lawson

Myspace; a place for friends. One of the most recognizable slogans in Web site history is the least accurate, as my Myspace page is no longer a place for any of my friends.

I encourage everyone to delete their Myspace accounts, if you haven’t already. I did, and a very creepy burden has been lifted off of my shoulders.

These social networking sites, mainly Myspace, have become a great way for pedophiles, rapists and murderers to find potential victims.

It’s not hard to see why Myspace is a ghost town these days. People must be catching on to the stalkerish ways of some Myspace users and abusers and joining the bandwagon of Facebook and Twitter.

I don’t even know what Twitter is, but the name alone worries me. Word on the street is the main purpose is to update your status.

I could be wrong, but isn’t Facebook already on top of the status feature game. Facebook allows for very little creepin’ with all of its security options.

One can set up their profile page to be harder to get into than Britney Spears’ pants circa 1998.

I would actually like to applaud the network that helps you connect and share with the people in your life for doing just that.

I appreciate the fact that Facebook helps me to find people I may or may not know in real life.

However, Facebook could be the blame for loss of potential and current jobs thanks to its photo section. I’d like to call this ruining political careers part one.

We, and by we, I mean students in general, all fall victim to scandalous photography during a few peak times of year; Halloween, spring break, costume parties and days at the lake.

If pictures are taken and it’s necessary that they go on Facebook to show all of your friends how popular you are and how much fun you have on the weekends, I would advise you, when it asks “who can see these pictures?” to click ‘Friends Only.’
