New Year’s resolutions open doors to motivation

So, the New Year begins, chock full of resolutions and new outlooks on the same life.
If it’s the same life, just a new year, what makes this calendar change feel like such a clean slate?
The New Year and its resolutions bring about changes for people such as losing weight, quitting smoking, etc.
All that the “New Year” marks is the end of one year, and beginning of the next, but in American culture it’s seen as an opportunity to change behaviors and renew motivation.
There’s no better excuse for motivation than the feel of a whole new 12 months to accomplish the things you felt got left behind the year before.
The tradition is great for college students; maybe last semester you feel you procrastinated too much or your grades weren’t as high as they could have been- here’s a chance for redemption.
It can work the same for your job. At the college age, our jobs are just that, jobs. Not careers.
But the motivation of a New Year’s resolution to work harder could push you to make more money this year, and support yourself more liberally.
Perhaps you could even gather the motivation to work harder and start a fund for a great vacation this year.
The New Year’s tradition can open up many doors for those who try to stick to their resolutions, even just the feeling of a clean slate can be inspiration in itself.
Here in the Mesa Legend newsroom, we have our own resolutions as well; no more procrastination!
We’re not perfect; we’re students who work hard.
This year we can all do our best to manage our schoolwork, jobs, and play-time, while still putting forth every bit of effort we can manage.
Even if you don’t believe in making resolutions (because really, they’re hard to keep) the New Year can be your perfect excuse to give yourself a bright, flawless slate to make a mess all over again.
