Occupy Movement: Unfocused.. ?

Ben Garcia

Unfocused, unorganized, unemployed. This would be my answer to the question “what is/who are the Occupy Wall Street movement?”

This movement is something that seems to be spreading quickly across the nation with huge amounts of support coming from social media users.

The Occupy Wall Street’s Facebook page cries of the mass injustices and points the finger at corporate America.

It’s filled with things like, “They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance,” and “They have donated large sums of money to politicians, who are responsible for regulating them.”

The movement seems to not have a direct focus, but rather a very broad anger with the way things are at this point in time. Yes, the status quo isn’t ideal for the majority of Americans, but in order to get anything done, all the energy being used to organize this movement needs to be focused in a specific direction that will lead to getting what they want done.

All the people that are a part of this movement need to get the broad ideas of overthrowing corporate America out of their heads.

Having unfocused and unrealistic ideas of what needs to be done is a direct reflection of how unorganized this movement is turning out to be.

Are the people on the streets of Houston protesting for the same reason that those on Wall Street are?

To put a local twist on things here in Phoenix, the location of the Occupy Phoenix protest has been moved several times, which has some doubting the credibility of the rally.

To me, a lot of the people partaking in the Occupy movement are a bunch of youths and/or disgruntled unemployed people pointing the finger at others.

I say the people of the Occupy movement might be unemployed because really who has enough time to go and occupy Wall Street for days and weeks on end? With that being said, I understand some of the frustration that these people are dealing with.

It is completely reasonable for someone who is unemployed to be angry and upset with “the system.”

I believe the efforts of the Occupy movement will go to waste if a real focus and purpose aren’t found and concentrated upon soon.
