Political parties: The real threat to national stability

Joesph Starkloff

George Washington predicted it in 1796. He gave the public fair warning about the consequences of their actions, but nothing has changed over the last 214 years.

Political parties continue their attempts to split the nation, push their agenda and ignore the will of the American people. The shocking facet of this is that we reward them.

In Washington’s farewell address he stated:

“Let me . warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party . The alternate domination of one faction over another . It agitates the Community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms; kindles the animosity of one part against another.”

Disagreements and debates are crucial to diplomacy, but they become destructive when done with only a party’s political interests in mind.

We are a nation for the people, and by the people. This doesn’t infer conservative, liberal, republican, or democrat.

Independent voters in Arizona may soon find themselves outside the Republican primary. This would likely help senate hopeful J.D. Hayworth seize John McCain’s current position.

In this example, I ask you if this deed is being done with the well-being of Americans in mind, or for a politician’s and party’s advancement.

If the party is dedicated to the advancement of Americans, then why are they trying to keep out nearly 940,000 independent voters? This is the mindset of party politics, and exactly what Washington warned about in his farewell address. It can be seen just as often in the Democrat Party.

If a party doesn’t want your opinion, then don’t give them your vote. Why award them for concerning themselves with only their “friends” and colleagues?

Heed the words of Washington, and no longer let politicians see you as nothing but a Republican or Democrat.
