President’s vision raises bar for MCC
Welcome to the 2008-09 academic year at one of the leading community colleges in the nation. It has been five months since taking on the responsibilities of president at Mesa Community College, and I have been impressed with the high level of commitment our faculty and staff have to our mission of excellence in teaching and learning.
The completion of the new physical science building and planetarium at the Southern and Dobson campus, along with the groundbreaking of the learning center at the Red Mountain campus to be completed next summer, are reflective of our dedication to provide students with a state-of-the-art education.
We are continually striving to elevate student services and resources to assist the widely diverse student body of nearly 25,000 students enrolled here at MCC.
Whether you are planning to transfer to a university, furthering your career or preparing to enter the workforce, I would encourage you to take advantage of these and other opportunities available for your educational and personal growth.
The safety of our students and faculty is of highest priority at our college.
We continue to implement safety measures to protect and inform those on campus if emergency situations arise.
New locks at the Southern and Dobson campus and a computerized lock system at the Red Mountain campus make campus-wide lockdowns possible. Digital phones with intercom capability in all classrooms and labs along with an ALERTUS system in common areas keep students and employees informed of important instructions and information.
In addition, we are exploring the use of a text messaging system to alert students and employees in case of an emergency.
Ongoing dialogue is important to addressing student needs.
I will be meeting with student government leaders and hosting breakfast discussions twice a semester with students participating in campus clubs.
