Soccer boasts of new ‘cohesion’

“This is the best group we’ve had yet.”
Words of high praise from MCC’s soccer coach, Andrew Guarneri, about this years men’s soccer club.
The hopeful prediction perhaps owes itself to Guarneri’s agressive scouting and off-season training mentality.
“I know a lot of kids coming through the clubs. It has to do with finding the right ones.”
Guarneri has paved a tough road at MCC over the past several years, as the campus sports scene has been rife with letdowns.
“It’s hard to get kids to show when the program has been down,” he said; something the coach plans to change.
As for new recruits this year, both men’s and women’s soccer “lost some good kids,” said Guarneri, “but no one was irreplaceable.”
Guarneri mentioned that all of his returning sophomores recieved adequate exposure as freshman.
As for the womens’ team, Guarneri noted that they “seem more cohesive than last year,” which could bode well for the Lady T-Birds, since it was, in fact, the women’s team that earned a playoff berth last year.
“Our captains are great leaders and they fit the personality type that I look for.”
Returning center midfielder, Jose Arreguin, hinted at the new nickname for men’s soccer with a grin; “Moosepack, is going to take it under control.”
“Our goal is to make sure we are in the playoffs,” Guarneri said.
