Recently, the Maricopa to ASU Pathway Programs (MAPP) has added 33 new majors for students to choose from, upping the total of majors offered to 125.MAPP is a collaboration between Maricopa Community Colleges and ASU to provide the most direct and efficient way for students to obtain a four-year degree by starting at the community college level and finishing at ASU.

“It’s the most efficient pathway to go into a specific major at the university,” said Andrea Buehman, the director of curriculum and transfer for Maricopa Community Colleges.

MAPP was created with the goal of saving students time and money.

What MAPP is designed to be is an exact prescription of classes that students need to complete at the community college level before transferring onto ASU, where the desired degree would then be completed.

Benefits of MAPP for students, according to Buehman, are the fact that it eliminates any guesswork by a student wanting to transfer to ASU from any Maricopa Community Colleges.

Another lucrative benefit of MAPP is that once the coursework, which is prescribed by the MAPP, is completed, admission into ASU is then guaranteed.

According to Buehman, MAPP started in December 2008 when Maricopa Community College’s Chancellor Rufus Glasper and ASU’s President Michael Crow came up with and signed an outline of the overall MAPP program.

According to Buehman, it wasn’t until 10 months later, due to the amount of work needed to make the collaboration work, that the 30 most popular majors were available first as a part of MAPP.
