Students get help from expo

Nathan Humpherys

The Kirk Center at Mesa Community College bustled with students cramming around tables talking to recruits from charities and non-profits in the local community at this semester’s Community Involvement Expo. Many students went from display to display, asking questions and seeking opportunities for service-learning opportunities, club activities, though some where there simply looking for an opportunity to get involved in the community.

Opportunities ranged from crime analysis internships with the Tempe police, assisting with kid’s camp activities, doing wildlife observation, or going to a foreign country to teach English.

If students missed the Community Involvement Expo, service-learning always has fliers in the hall next to the information desk.

Some organizations who were looking for people to volunteer their time were Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Arizona Museum for Youth, Tempe Police Department, Valley of the Sun YMCA, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, MCC’s Center for Service Learning, Project C.U.R.E., International Language Programs, Habitat for Humanity, MCC Recylcing, Care Partnership, Mesa Police Department, Mesa Fire Department.
