Students seek alternatives to pricey textbooks

The average student spent an average of $700 on books alone during the 2006-2007 school year, according to the National Association of College Stores. Students can do many different things with the $700 they have to spend on textbooks like buy food, shop, pay bills, rent, or even make a car payment.

Liz Cady buys her books across the street at the Textbook Company and hasn’t run into that many problems when purchasing books.

“They had all of my books in stock so finding them wasn’t an issue. The only thing I had a problem with was some of the books were expensive even if they were used,” Cady said.

Bookleberry.com is a website where students can buy and sell books at reasonable prices. The site also provides free shipping with any book $25 or over.

Another discounted site for books is Half.com.

“I bought my math book off of half.com,” said student Miles Richardson, “The price was really good and even shipping was fast. I would recommend this site to students if they want to save a few bucks.”

One Web site that student Tim Alm finds helpful is aztextbooks.com.

This Web site allows students to list the textbook at the price that they want to sell it at for.

If a student bought the book for $85 and the bookstore is only willing to pay $40 for it, why not sell it for a better price as well as giving another student a deal on it?
