Tattoo Chronicles marks 2nd book for Kat Von D

On Nov. 12, Kat Von D made her way to Barnes and Noble at Desert Ridge Marketplace in Scottsdale, to promote her second book “The Tattoo Chronicles.”The book tour consisted of more than 25 cities, not including Europe. “The Tattoo Chronicles” is an insider’s look into her experiences with clients and their stories behind their tattoos.

The last time we talked, you were on your first book tour and had mentioned that you had plans to release a second book, that being “The Tattoo Chronicles.” Tell me how this book differs from your previous book.

“I think the first book was an insider’s look into the tattoo world. I could talk about tattooing nonstop all day long, but I think that this book is so much different in a sense that it’s so much more intimate and more about feelings versus the tattoos.

The tattoos are important in a sense that they are like the vessels that carry the story, but I never intended in publishing my journals when I wrote them. I was doing it as a form of self therapy. Looking back, I just realized how much I was figuring out my own personal struggles by listening to others, so I felt like sharing that with the world. Hopefully it will do the same for others when they read it.”

So this book is more about the experiences of your clients?

“Yup.”

In the book you featured many different artists including M Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold. What was that like?

“Oh cool so you saw M Shadows? It was awesome. His story in the book is probably one of the more light hearted ones.

You know that obviously the tattoo that I did on Matt was done before The Rev passed away, so I have tattooed him since. I think it was a perfect indicator of how much he loved his friends and family, so you can only imagine how hard that would be. (The book) is such a great window into (the clients) world, whether you’re a fan of Green Day or Metallica. It’s cool to see what their reasons behind their tattoos are.”

So you had your friend Rooftop on this book tour. What has the turn out been like for your signings compared to last year with the “High Voltage” book tour?

“I think that the book is selling more than the first book. Rooftop didn’t plan on coming with me for the whole tour, but I was like ‘look man you have to come out because all of these people are asking where’s Rooftop?’ So I had everybody on Twitter convince him to come out.

It changes the whole experience. People are way more excited and it turns into a party. This has been the coolest book tour ever. It’s been really good. I’m use to traveling by myself because I always do, but it’s kind of cool having a good road dog, so we’ve been having a lot of fun.”

So whats next? Book number three? More filming for LA Ink?

“We are not filming right now just because I am focusing on the book tour, but the network wants to film an additional eight episodes to tag on to this season, so we’ll see. I’ll probably just want to take a nap after this tour, but unlike the last (tour), we are doing Canada and Europe and I won’t be home until mid December.

As for a third book, I’m sure that the publishing company may want to do a third because this one is doing so well, but I really don’t know. I think that the minute you start doing projects for the money it ends up killing it.”

I just have to take it one day at a time. If there is something that inspires me to do something I will, but if not I’m cool with not doing it too.
