Why not a peaceful alternative?

The View

There’s some irony in the statement that the world has progressed in the last couple of decades.

An irony that is undeniable because we can still see violence as an often used tactic to get a desired outcome whether it is political, social, or personal.

The violence in Ukraine had a rising death toll from riots in their capital and a potential conflict with Russia.

The Middle East has dealt with violence longer than many of us want to remember, but has continued with nothing but uncertainty.

In the United States we have various problems that our legislators solve by sending the military for their political interests.

Violence in the crimes that are reported in our own nation strike a chord on a personal level because they are our peers who committed them.

The irony is that we live in the 21st century and the world still chooses not to avoid violence.

The cynics in all of us have scoffed at the thought of peace talks and summits to come up with non-violent solutions to political problems.

The problems we encounter in America whether racial or social have shown that the people who get involved in such heated protests sometimes riot.

Think about the responses to George Zimmerman’s acquittal, or going further back when civil rights protests drew violent reactions from the opposition of the movement and even law enforcement.

We still see it in modern America and it shows we have not progressed as much as we should have at this point.

It is sad on a localized level, we find violent crimes people commit against their own family, or innocent strangers without a motive.

Pop culture has glorified violence and it sends the wrong message.

When will we as a global society learn to accept that violence only leads us down a dark path that is just not healthy?

Is society capable of solving this problem?

One can only hope.
