Club aimed at athletes

For the first time in MCC’s history, the Athletics department has formed a booster club.
The club is the brainchild of MCC’s Athletic Director, Jeff Fore and Assistant Athletic Director, Todd Bolser.
“We’ve never had one before, and the idea is to get word out that kids are in need of school money to compete with the big dogs in-state,” Bolser said.
The Booster Club allows MCC to remain a competitive and valid force within the network of community colleges.
A common hindrance to this is other schools outside of Maricopa Community College District that can recruit nation-wide and offer full-ride scholarships, meal plans, on-campus housing, etc.
However, there are many more restrictions placed on such recruiting and the disparity in funding among what MCC can offer versus a school outside of the MCCCD remains significant.
This is where the Booster Club comes in.
Boosters will help a general scholarship fund that is allocated for the student athlete’s financial need.
Through mailers and the MCC athletics webpage, boosters donate money, with 25 percent of their donation going to a general athletic fund and 75 percent at the donor’s discretion.
All contributions are tax-deductible and 100 percent of the money goes to athletes.
