Connect 4 Success program aims to help students transition into college life

The Mesa Community College “Connect 4 Success” program is designed to help students transition into college life.

The program was started by MCC President Shouan Pan and is currently being run by instructor and faculty member Janet Felton.

“Our main goal is to ensure that students are familiar with the resources available to them,” Felton said.

She went on to say that the program also focuses on students making personal connections and resources both on and off campus.

The program specifically targets “atrisk” students such as developmental individuals or those who work more than 20 hours a week along with college courses.

“I think it’s one of the best programs the school could possibly have,” said Elisabet Nordeng, a former participant in the program. “It helped me to figure out different ways to study for my math class and introduced me to lots of people around campus,” Nordeng added.

The program uses coaches made up of full and part-time faculty and staff members who work exclusively with a student and meet personally with them at least six times in a semester.

Students will be invited to join the program if they are enrolled in two developmental classes in one semester and will have an email sent to their student email account.

“There weren’t programs like this available to me,” Felton said. “If there were, maybe I wouldn’t have stumbled in some cases.”
