MCC not only runs many noncredit classes on campus, but also offers more than 500 online courses, including over 150 career training programs, according to Coordinator of Continuing Education at MCC, Michelle Chambers.

She said most of the non-credit classes meet once or twice a week for a maximum of six to eight weeks.

The coordinator also said the career programs offer education in various job fields, are low-cost, and can be completed in three months.

“Students who are enrolled in a Continuing Education courses can receive an Award of Completion for their course, if they need it for their records, too, which is a major advantage,” Chambers said.

MCC professor Paul Valach who teaches Facebook and iPad classes said another advantage of non-credit courses is that they offer knowledge and substance about very concrete subjects.

“You take such class, because you want to know about a specific topic,” Valach said.

According to Chambers, however, students are not able to get credit for these classes, they will not be included in the transcript, and do not qualify for financial aid.

She also said there are no requirements for students who want to take a non-credit class.

The cost of a non-credit class can vary from free of charge to $4,000.

Chambers said some of the most popular non-credit courses are: computer training, eBay, social media, writing, photography, money, art, as well as language courses, such as Spanish, French, and Italian.
