MCC Softball crushes Lake Michigan

Mesa’s softball team shook off a poor start in the first game of their doubleheader at home against the Lake Michigan Lady Indians on March 4.
After a couple of errors and a two-run triple in the top of the first, Lake Michigan seemed to have the Thunderbird’s number.
Lady Indians’ pitcher Sara Cobb reassured those thoughts by retiring the first three batters for Mesa
Thunderbirds pitcher Tiffanee Frampton had other plans, though.
Including the last batter in the first, Frampton retired her next 12 batters in a row.
The Thunderbirds’ offense clicked as well.
Third baseman Megan Kowal singled home a run in the second to start the rally.
Four more runs in the third put the Thunderbirds on top, 5-2.
Freshman Tanya Eckles provided the most excitement with a solo home run to left-center in the fourth to extend the lead to 6-2.
Another run in the fourth and two more in the bottom of the fifth was all it took as Mesa run-ruled Lake Michigan 10-2.
The Thunderbirds have now reeled off eight wins in a row and 13 of their last 14 since head coach Jon Malgradi took over calling the pitches.
Assistant coach Grady Moorhead said that the “girls are responding” well to the changes.
Throughout the game, chants and cheers could be heard emanating from Mesa’s dugout.
“When we’re loud we win,” Moorhead said.
