Sigma Chi Eta seeks to inspire students

MCC’s Upsilon chapter of Sigma Chi Eta Communications Honor Society proves there are no boundaries when it comes to accomplishing goals. Sigma Chi Eta aims to recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement among many other goals that have been set for all members.

Professional development and networking are promoted in the club in different ways that pertain to students of all majors; not just communications majors, said Dr. Puvana Ganesan and Sigma Chi Eta advisor.

Sigma Chi Eta accomplishes their goals through a variety of outlets.

Service learning, speech and debate tournaments, communication workshops, and cultural simulation exercises give members a variety of ways to get involved.

“Advertising, marketing, social work, and event management. We provide real experience in a variety of aspects in the communication field,”  Ganesan said.

In November 2011, Sigma Chi Eta was rewarded in New Orleans, La., with the Raymie E. McKerrow Best National Chapter Award. Ganesan along with MCC chapter president Valerie Rodriguez, vice president and Brandon Viskovic traveled to accept the award. Rodriguez was also elected Vice President for the National Student Senate and Ganesan was elected to serve on the National Faculty Advisory Board for the National Communication Association.

Sigma Chi Eta gives students collaborative community engagement, professional development, and an honors status. Sigma Chi Eta shows the sky is truly the limit when it comes to achieving goals.
